Safer Edison Park Streets for Everyone

Take action Now for a safer Northwest highway and downtown edison park!

For decades, high speed traffic on Northwest Highway and throughout downtown Edison Park has posed a constant threat to the health and safety of the children, seniors, parents, and businesses that call this neighborhood home.

The unsafe design of Northwest Highway, and the downtown area including Oliphant, Oshkosh, and Olmstead Avenues, has turned our neighborhood's downtown streets into drag strips where excessive vehicle speeds have resulted in countless near misses, repeated collisions, life threatening injuries, property damage, and even death.

Northwest Highway, between Olympia Avenue and Overhill Avenue, and the below noted streets, require a comprehensive plan for improvement that prioritizes the safety of all road users, particularly children and the elderly, above vehicle speed.

As Edison Park residents, businesses, and community groups concerned about the safety, livability, and vibrancy of our neighborhood, we urge City and State agencies and elected officials to create and implement a comprehensive plan for improving the streets of downtown Edison Park that prioritizes the safety of all road users over speed, and slows traffic.

Implementing such a plan would make Edison Park a safer and more welcoming place to live, gather, shop, eat, and work. It is long past time that the safety, needs, and interests of the residents and businesses that call this neighborhood home be prioritized over the needs of those who use our main streets as mere shortcuts.
